My Dad wrote the guide book to St Mary and St Hardulph at Breedon on The Hill, Leicestershire. The church is made up of different styles over time and includes some of the earliest examples of Anglo-Saxon carving. Hidden in the steeple is a carving of a Byzantine angel, one of the earliest depictions found in Britain. Growing up seeing these medieval creatures in Dad's work, I became interested in the simplicity and abstraction in how they were drawn that influenced this piece.
