Black Tower

Three years ago, my graduation work Kensington Mongrel, looked at the contrast in affluence and poverty in the Kensington Borough. Last June the Grenfell tower fire and aftermath, brought much of this debate into the public realm. Being based near Hammersmith, the plume of smoke on the 15th June was unmissable. Visiting the site felt necessary, however, I could not have prepared myself for the quiet shame and absence that waited there. Responding to these studies has taken a long time, questioning motivations and my own authority. I believe that response is part of a process, no matter how small, in order for the larger community to understand, heal and keep dialogue open in order to prevent recurrence.
