Crockery ramble

Sometimes I get stick for taking my mug and bowl away with me on holiday.

They say, ‘I’m sure the Airbnb will have crockery Jon.’

I say, ‘There’ll be some mass-produced odd and sods, like an awkward bone china speed date. I don’t know where they’ve been or who they’ve been with and frankly I've no interest in finding out.’

Handmade utensils give me a grounding, familiar objects to begin or return to during the day.

I know and cherish their reliability, weight, capacity and surface. The subtle imperfections that are part of their essence, character and relationship with their maker.
