Tanabata

Many thanks for all the birthday messages. It’s been a challenging year with my Dad having recently passed away, so hearing from you all has been really good.

I happily spent the majority of the day in the studio.

The 7th of July is also the Tanabata star festival in Japan, a date where craftspeople would offer up prayers for their artistry in a ritual called Kikkōden. The festival’s folkstory has an association with magpies, so here are a couple of work in progress shots from yesterday working in porcelain.
